Tucson Redux (get me out of here)

After our Utah excursions we landed back in Tucson for our 2nd vaccine, and so much more. Before we decided to make the RV our temporary home I was well aware that unexpected issues could land us in towns we never expected to stay. I was not prepared for those unexpected issues to occur simultaneously in one day. Did I mention we bought a jeep a few weeks back?

Buying our jeep a few weeks back

I’ll set the scene. After hearing stories from family and friends about feeling awful following their second vaccine, we decided it’d be wise to stay in a hotel in case we needed some creature comforts within reach for the kids. Since we’d be in a hotel we planned to check a few things off the list while we weren’t moving around.

1. 6 month dental check-ups for P&B

2. Have RV checked out to discover why it smells like a toilet when we drive with windows down.

3. Get RV windshield replaced after crappy windshield replacement we just had done in Nogales.

4. Get sidesteps installed on jeep so kids can get in without looking like they are future pole vaulters.

Let’s just say, none of the above went smoothly, except for the 2nd windshield replacement. Phil was told the RV needed a new toilet but none were in stock so he had to walk to another RV store to buy a toilet and walk back, down the streets of south Tucson with a toilet. Toilet installed, stinky problem resolved.

Next on the agenda. Colleen and kids were to meet Phil at jeep dealership to drop jeep for a quick step installation. The kids and I stopped for lunch at Eegee’s (a Tucson sandwich shop) and upon leaving the parking lot, the gears on the jeep started slipping and I could only go in reverse. So, jeep was towed. All the while, a light drizzle turned into a downpour

Only day of rain since we’ve been out here

Since it was the first rain we’ve had since our trip began March 15, it was the first time we learned there was a leak, brought to our attention by P as the jeep was getting connected to the tow truck

Leak discovery

I truly wondered, “is this the day that does us in?” Fortunately, Phil and I, both at our wits end, decided to make that decision the next day. We arrived back to our hotel, exhausted and ready for a soak in the hot tub. As luck would have it, there was another RV’ing family there and we exchanged all the joys and frustrations with RV life and had some good laughs. As we walked back to the hotel room, we were treated to this view which made the stress from the day melt away.
