It was winter when Phil and I traveled throughout Southern Africa, which meant that due to shorter days, we typically arrived at our destination when it was dark. We were tent camping then so during set-up we’d usually get some idea of what our surroundings would be in the morning. We definitely had some laughs, like when we were woken up in the wee hours of the morning to loud boat engines and learned we were in the middle of a huge fishing competition. Or, when we learned the gigantic barge just offshore from our campsite in Namibia was actually a diamond mining operation.
We still tend to roll into our campsites in the dark but, now that we have ditched the tent for our RV it’s not uncommon for us to wait until morning to check out our surroundings. When we arrived at our site last night, the wind was whipping so hard that I didn’t want to spend much time beyond a quick walk for Olive.
I was pleasantly surprised this morning when I woke up to this view outside the window…and guess who was already outside looking for treasures.
